Remember the home entertainment format "war" between Betamax and VHS some 20 years ago? Well, guess what folks? It's about to happen again. While the DVD itself, isn't really going anywhere, per se` the format is about to undergo a few changes
Over the last few months, I have heard a lot of chatter about both Blu-Ray disc technology, as well as the HD DVD and while I know that the evolution of the format is a forgone conclusion, I say can't we all just get along---Why does there need to be a war at all?. I have no problem with the idea of more than one format upgrade to choose from--the way of commerce will take care of the winners and losers, but what does bother me is the fact that the companies hawking their respective format choice seem to hold their customers in little regard. I say this, after reading this editorial. If the companies are arguing over pixels and sound quality on the eve of their debut, then how are we as consumers supposed to decide. I guess we should be thankful, at least, that our "old discs" will be compatible. It looks like this chess game will be going the distance.
