Returns On The Investment
Despite the fact that the U.S. is technically still considered in the midst of a weekend, thanks to the Independence Day holiday, the industry is content to release 'preliminary" numbers as though everything were "normal". And I'll give you one guess which film landed in the top spot...
The Box Office Mojo Weekend Report by Brandon Gray has all of the details:
With $84.2 million in five days, 'Superman Returns 'was faster than 'Batman Begins' but less powerful than Spider-Man, while The Devil Wears Prada [in 2nd place with $27 million] was more fashionable than expected...
Gray's full report can be found here.
Meanwhile, 'Superman' tops B.O. with $52.1 mil, by Variety's Ben Fritz goes back in time as well, putting the SR in their proper place--without the spin of the studio distributor Warner Bros.
A solid debut for sure...But will it be considered a blockbuster when all is said and done?
