Here are a few updates on some projects that I have been following:
Gabriel Macht (pictured) has been cast as the title character for the feature film version of "The Spirit".
Frank Miller is bringing the adaptation of the classic Will Eisner comic book series to the big screen. The story follows a rookie cop who faked his death so he can secretly battle crime in Central City - notably the villain known as the Octopus.
Macht won out after some intense auditioning, and Miller hints that he's optioned for several sequels should the first flick be a success...
Macht did a great with his role in The Recruit--playing Zach--who squares off against Colin Farrell's character...And in the film Behind Enemy Lines as tough guy Stackhouse. He seems like a good fit here and if the film soars expect his career to do the same...
Meanwhile over at IESB.net there's a report that Live Free or Die Hard director Len Wiseman is currently negotiating to develop and direct both "'Gears of War'"--based on the popular Xbox video game--and that "Escape from New York" remake for New Line Cinema.
"Gears" centers around an elite group of soldiers fighting to stay alive on an alien planet against incredible odds.
As for "Escape": it's a futuristic actioner starring Gerard Butler as anti-hero Snake Plissken--first made famous by Kurt Russell in the 1981 classic...
Wiseman seems to have hit a solid home run with "Live Free"... I'll be watching what happens--especially with regard to "Escape".
