In Play At Work

From all of those photos of actor Matthew McConaughey (pictured) having fun in the California sun, published in the tabbys, you would think he's abandoned his film career.

As it turns out--Matt's been quite busy in front of the camera--replacing another actor, gaining a co-star for a flick in the pipeline, with 2 more movies set for 2008...

Michael Fleming of Variety:

Matthew McConaughey has jumped into the ensemble cast of "Tropic Thunder," the Ben Stiller-directed DreamWorks comedy.

The job amounts to an uncredited cameo, as McConaughey takes the role that Owen Wilson ankled after he was hospitalized (Daily Variety, Aug. 29).

McConaughey joins an ensemble cast that includes Stiller, Jack Black, Robert Downey Jr., Nick Nolte, Bill Hader and Steve Coogan.

Pic's about a group of actors who gather on a remote island to shoot a big-budget war movie and are forced to become the soldiers they are playing.

McConaughey, who this year finished the Andy Tennant-directed "Fool's Gold" and the S.R. Bindler-directed "Surfer Dude ," carved out a week in his schedule to shoot the role. Pic is lensing in Hawaii.

McConaughey filling in for Wilson seems like a good fit...Given the premise of the comedy and his laid-back nature.

As for his new co-star...

Tatiana Siegel and Dave McNary:

Jennifer Garner (pictured)is in negotiations to star opposite Matthew McConaughey in New Line Cinema's "The Ghosts of Girlfriends Past."

Mark Waters will helm from a Jon Lucas and Scott Moore screenplay.

The story centers on a charming womanizer who is visited by the apparitions of girlfriends past, present and future while attending the wedding of his younger brother. He eventually realizes that he is in love with his childhood sweetheart.

Jon Shestack and Brad Epstein are producing.

Shooting is scheduled to begin in January.

Garner next stars in Universal Pictures' "The Kingdom" and Fox Searchlight's "Juno." She is currently playing the role of Roxanne in a Broadway version of "Cyrano"

I have enjoyed Garner's TV work over the years...Her film work though has been quite lopsided. I'm still waiting for her to get a great role. Perhaps "Ghosts" will be "the one"
