2 Hero Hires; Some Space; And A "Box"

Here's a few news bytes for you to chew on:

-The suits at Sony Pictures announced they've hired writer James Vanderbilt to pen the Spider-Man 4 screenplay.

He wrote Zodiac and is currently working on the X-Men Origins: Wolverine script.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Vanderbilt was chosen by Sony for the fourth instalment because of his character-driven approach to the story, rather than a focus on special effects--ala Spider-Man 3.

The problem with the third Spidey flick had nothing to do with the number of effects shots...Rather, it was its over-stuffed script. Hope springs forth that Vanderbilt turns in a more focused effort.

--David Dobkin (Fred Claus") has signed on to helm "The Flash" flick reports MTV News.

Dobkin told the site, his adaptation won't be the character's first appearance in theaters, with the Flash a major part of George Miller's Justice League of America movie.

Dobkin confirmed that his movie will be set in the same universe as Justice League as a direct spin-off, meaning whoever they cast for 'League' will likely reprise the role. He added that the Flash they will use is "Wally West."

Shawn Levy and David Goyer were at one time, previously attached to direct the super hero film.

Given Dobkin is better known as a comedy guy--He makes for an intriguing choice to helm Flash--but I'm willing to "run with it" for now...Since JLA will likely beat the solo effort of Flash to theaters--a tie in is the right way to go...

-- In Star Trek Teaser Trailer News:

With production set to begin in a few days, Latino Review reported last Thursday that there is a teaser for Star Trek in the works and that it will show the construction of the Enterprise.

TrekMovie.com has confirmed this info with multiple sources. In addition, one source revealed that parts of the teaser have already been shot.

Dates for a debut are under discussion...The two most likely possibilities are for it to be shown with the super-secret Untitled J.J. Abrams Project (Jan 18, 2008), or Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (May 22, 2008).

While seeing the Enterprise being built sounds cool---does it really need to happen here at all? Since Kirk takes command from Pike by the end....We don't need to go that far back do we?

-- THR reports that James Marsden (pictured) is in final negotiations to star opposite Cameron Diaz in helmer Richard Kelly's horror film The Box...

We know that Diaz and Marsden will look great on screen together...The real question is can they act well together?

With the week off, the Bears hope to regroup after dropping five of first eight ...

The Chicago Bears certainly did not expect to be 3-5 heading into their bye week...and neither did I...
