Talking with MTV News, the very busy director Guillermo del Toro says he is planning a "definitive take" on Mary Shelley's classic story-Frankenstein
Del Toro says that his vision, which is in the earliest stages of pre-production, will not be a literal adaptation - "The only way to do the Shelley novel is to actually do a four-hour miniseries. But I think there [are] permutations in which you can tell the myth in a different way."
Numerous film adaptations of the classic story have materialized over the years, the most famous being the James Whale-helmed classic of 1931 with Boris Karloff (pictured) setting the standard.
The most recent big budget adaptation of the story was the Kenneth Branagh-directed version from 1994 which starred Robert De Niro as the monster.
Putting the finishing touches on the "Hellboy II - The Golden Army, the helmer remains committed to 5 additional flicks down the road.
One question: If Del Toro is gonna make a definitive version of the tale--How can you have a different take on the myth at the same time...?
