The story centers around a young man's attempt to reconnect with his father, a legendary athlete, as he struggles to get him home to his ailing mother's bedside.
Michael Meredith (Land of Plenty) will write and direct.
German helmer Wim Wenders is serving as visual consultant on the project.
Production begins in Louisiana and points beyond later this month.
Timberlake is appearing in the comedy The Love Guru this year as well.
