AICN reports that director Frank Darabont has bowed out of the production of the psychological thriller "Law Abiding Citizen".
Darabont left the production a little over a week ago and the split apparently wasn't very friendly.
Elisabeth Rappe of MTV has a theory:
Could the shifting story lines be part of the problem?
When the film was first announced, as part of Gerard Butler's Evil Twin Production [company], Butler was starring as an assistant D.A. who found himself in the center of a traumatized victim’s vigilante plot. When Darabont’s name became attached, the vigilante had been replaced by a criminal mastermind, who was controlling the city from the confines of his cell. (A good fit for Darabont, who likes a good prison drama.) [see The Shawshank Redemption and The Green Mile].
When [Jamie Foxx] signed on, the plot had shifted back to the vigilante storyline, with Foxx playing the vigilante hellbent for justice.
A shame...Darabont, Butler and Foxx could have done great things
No word yet as to how this affects production.. Let the speculation and replacement names list begin...
