The 1940's comic centered on Steve Rogers, a rejected Army candidate who undergoes an experiment involving a sort-of 'super soldier serum' that takes him to the pinnacle of human form. The character was revived in recent years and reintroduced as part of the Avengers, his body having been in suspended animation since World War II was won.
The 2011 flick is a period piece set during that time, though the upcoming "The Avengers"movie in which he plays a key role is set in modern day.
No writers are yet attached but the project is scheduled for a May 6th 2011 release
Johnston's is a great pick here. He has tons of genre and F/X flicks on his resume including the The Wolf Man remake which is already in the can and is scheduled for release early next year.
