Oscar nominee Melissa Leo has signed on to star with Hilary Swank in Tony Goldwyn’s upcoming drama “Betty Anne Waters." reports Variety.The drama centers on an unemployed single mother (Swank) who saw her brother (Sam Rockwell) begin serving a life sentence in 1983 for murder and robbery.
Convinced that he was innocent, she earned a law degree and challenged the conviction with DNA evidence, resulting in her brother being freed in 2001.
Leo portrays the only woman officer at a local police station who’s trying to pin the murder on him. Minnie Driver also stars.
Pamela Gray wrote the original script, which Richard Lagravenese rewrote.
