Clawing His Way Back

Oscar-winning writer Christopher McQuarrie has been hired to pen the script for sequel to X-Men Origins: Wolverine says Variety.

The sequel’s story line will take its cue from the early 1980s Frank Miller/Chris Claremont mini-series, set in Japan and had the clawed hero taking on ninjas as he struggles with whether to follow his animal killer instincts or the life under a samurai's code of honor and respect.

The direction of the sequel's story was hinted upon in one of the of the bonus scenes after the end credits of the first film.

A few days ago star Hugh Jackman told MTV:

"Japan is where we're heading, [and] we're starting to work on it now. We're in the ... first steps of developing that story".

McQuarrie was credited as one of the writers on the first X-Men film but had removed his name when he saw the final film bared little resemblance to what he had done.

The source material is top notch and so is McQ--I expect a much better script on this pic than the one used for XOW...
