Stewart's Shadow

Tom Hanks will NOT star in pal Steven Spielberg's remake of Harvey, says Variety.

A spokessuit for the studio says that Hanks didn't even read Jonathan Tropper's script before passing on the project.

Hanks was well aware that everyone thinks of him as a modern day Jimmy Stewart. who starred in the original, and thought that would make it impossible to succeed in the role. If he acted too much like Stewart did, he was unoriginal. If he acted too unlike Stewart, he'd be crucified for disrespecting the original.

A smart move from Hanks...
