Acclaimed director David Cronenberg will develop a remake of his 1986 film The Fly--itself a remake of of Kurt Neumann’s 1958 film--that made "Help me! Help meee!" a classic film catchphrase...

The Risky Biz Blog. says Cronenberg originally wanted nothing to do with a new "Fly" remake. But advances in CGI and effects convinced Cronenberg to come back to the franchise.

The '86 film saw Jeff Goldblum play a scientist who developed teleportation. He uses himself as the first human guinea pig, unaware that a housefly manages to get inside the chamber with him. After a seemingly successful test at first, he begins to transform into a gigantic fly much to the horror of himself and a journalist (Geena Davis.) with whom he is romantically involved.

Cronenberg will develop and potentially write this new incarnation.

A director remaking his own film is not without precedent-Alfred Hitchcock did it with The Man Who Knew Too Much in 1956, and Funny Games was made twice by Michael Haneke...

If The Fly must be rebooted I guess I would rather have Cronenberg in the big chair than anyone else...
