A film adaptation of "American Idiot", the upcoming Broadway based on Green Day's album is in development says Deadline New York. 'Idiot' follows three young men from a small town who follow quite different paths - one joins the army, the other becomes a addict living on the city streets, the third stays home after his girlfriend falls pregnant. Green Day's songs make up most of the dialogue.
Actor Tom Hanks' Playtone company are behind the effort and also turned the ABBA musical "Mamma Mia!" into one of the biggest films of 2008.
Hanks and his Playtone partner Gary Goetzman are set to produce.
