The film was based upon author Philip K. Dick's story Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?
The pact would mark the Warner Bros. based subsidiary financing and production company's most significant property acquisition in its thirteen year history. The franchise rights would be all-inclusive, aside from one very specific exclusion - they do NOT have the right to remake the original.
They can however produce projects based on situations introduced in the film, namely other stories set in that universe and using elements such as Replicants, Blade Runners and the Tyrell Corporation.
Bud Yorkin Broderick Johnson and Andrew Kosove would produce any projects that emerge from this deal.
WB would distribute domestically, international rights have yet to be determined.
Not quite sure whether I like this idea or not--no matter what form it takes.
