Villains in “Red Dawn" Remake Change

For whatever reason, MGM remade the 1980’s film Red Dawn. Though filming ended in 2009, it’s yet to find a theatrical release or a distributor for that matter.

Making this revamp sensible for modern times means removing the Soviet Union context. The Chinese were thrown in as the main antagonist of this feature for that reason.

Now, two years later, it looks like we’re getting a second villain change. According to The Los Angeles Times, the villains will now be North Korean. China is too much of a commodity in the industry of global entertainment, and there’s no way that a film of this nature would make it past the censors. When pictures from the film were posted on the Web in 2009, here’s what one commenter in China had to say:

"There is no hope for theatrical screening [censorship], wait for pirated version."

As a result, Chinese symbols will disappear by way of digital magic, and the dialogue and various aspects of the film will be altered to fit into this new North Korean scenario.

Tripp Vinson, a producer for Red Dawn, said:

"We were initially very reluctant to make any changes. But after careful consideration we constructed a way to make a scarier, smarter and more dangerous Red Dawn that we believe improves the movie."

Red Dawn redo stars Chris Hemsworth, Adrianne Palicki, Josh Hutcherson, and Jeffrey Dean Morgan.

This remake sounds like an unmitigated disaster, and you know what? I honestly can’t wait for it. I can picture John Wilson branding the Razzies now.
