“Gatsby” Update: Fisher Hops on Board, Affleck Won’t Star

Isla Fisher officially signed on to star in The Great Gatsby, Baz Luhrmann’s adaptation of the iconic F. Scott Fitzgerald novel. The Hollywood Reporter relays that she’ll play the married Myrtle, who despite her marriage is “having an affair”.

Additionally, there’s the news that Ben Affleck won’t be starring in the film as the wealthy Tom, which hit shortly after the update concerning Fisher. According to /Film, he’ll instead direct and act in the spy flick Argo, which pulls its inspiration from real-life happenings in Iran.

Though I’m skeptical about Luhrmann’s take – mainly due to his wacky style and usage of 3D – the cast he’s assembled thus far is a terrific one; Fisher’s an amazing actress just waiting for a big dramatic breakthrough, and this could be it.

How do you feel about these casting updates?
