John McKenzie’s mystery flick The Long Good Friday nabbed several awards kudos for leading man Bob Hoskins; now the film looks to get new life on television.
According to Variety, Guy Collins, Fred Hedman, and Michael Ryan want to turn the film into a television series. Ray Winstone of Beowulf might fill the role once played by Hoskins, that of a “Cockney gang boss threatened by Irish terrorists moving in on his territory.” The three also aim to take Terry Gilliam’s Time Bandits and give it a reboot geared towards children; the original film, from 1981, stars John Cleese and Shelley Duvall.

I’m a bit intrigued by this information on The Long Good Friday. We don’t get any info on the channel it’ll play on, but it wouldn’t be hard to assume that it’ll be on a pay-cable channel like HBO or Showtime. However, the Time Bandits bit is somewhat troubling. Are kid-oriented action films ever worth watching?
