On Course For Oblivion

Universal Pictures may scoop up TRON Legacy director Joseph Kosinski's sci-fi film Horizons after Disney passed on it says THR

Based upon Kosinski's own graphic novel Oblivion which he created for Radical Comics the action is set in an apocalyptic future where most people live high in the sky due to Earth's surface being uninhabitable, a soldier stuck on the ground goes about his job repairing hunter drones which seek out and destroy members of a savage alien race. He soon comes upon a beautiful woman whose craft has crashed nearby and together they set out on an epic adventure.

Tom Cruise may take the lead role for Horizons.

Interesting aside--the Universal suits seemingly balked in March at paying $150 Million to make Guillermo Del Toro's adaptation H. P. Lovecraft novella "At the Mountains of Madness"--with Cruise circling the lead there as well--Just as production  set to kick off in June. Del Toro has of course since moved on and might  try developing 'Mountains' down the line at some point. Talking with Deadline, del Toro insisted that he and his team hit the budget estimates that Universal had put forth. The point of contention was instead over a potential R-rating for Madness...

Anyway...Universal bean counters have made it clear to Kosinski that he won’t get anything more than $100 million.

Just about two weeks ago Karl Gajdusek (Trespass) was hired to rewrite William Monahan‘s (The Departed) adapted script for Horizons

The film will be produced by Kosinski, Barry Levine Alwin H. Kuchler and Jeffrey Silver
