Portman Addresses the Dancing Controversy of “Black Swan”

Just in time for the home distribution of Darren Aronofsky’s Black Swan, Natalie Portman’s stunt double Sarah Lane saw her opportunity to steal fifteen minutes of fame; she claimed that she did most of the dancing for the character of Nina Sayers, while Portman’s face was digitally placed on the head.

Aronofsky, co-star (and friend) Mila Kunis, and co-star (and fiancé) Benjamin Millipied have all come to Portman’s defense; now we get to hear her side of the story.

The actress, who won the Best Actress Oscar for this role, discusses the controversy with E! News (via Entertainment Weekly) while doing press for her latest film Your Highness. Interestingly enough, she neither directly debunks nor directly confirms Lane’s accusations. Here’s what she says instead:

I know what went on. I’m really proud of everyone’s work on the movie and of my experience. And I’ll have that forever. So it’s nice for me to always know about that no matter what kind of nastiness or gossip is going around.”

This quote is entirely up for interpretation since there’s no black/white response from Portman, but I think she’s choosing to deny the rumor in a sophisticated way instead of taking an offensive angle to it. Besides, we all knew that Portman and Kunis had stunt doubles just in case they couldn’t pull off a move just right.

So, what do we make of this controversy now that Portman has finally opened up about it?
