Former Kiteboarding superstar turned actress Maika Monroe has joined the cast of the comedy "Labor Day" reports Variety.
Based on author Joyce Maynard's book--the action is set on a late summer Labor Day holiday weekend in the 1980s, the story follows a divorced, depressed single mom (Kate Winslet) out shopping with her 13-year-old son Henry when they encounter a large, fearsome and bleeding man named Frank (Josh Brolin). He asks for a ride and against their better judgment they agree, later learning the police are searching their town for an escaped convict.
Monroe will play Mandy, a farm girl that the younger version of Brolin's character (played by Tom Lipinski) romances before serving in the Vietnam War. She eventually becomes his wife and the mother of his child.
Jason Reitman will direct using his adapted script, and will co-produce the film with Helen Estabrook Lianne Halfon and Russell Smith.
Monroe is currently shooting Sofia Coppola's The Bling Ring and recently completed work as Zac Efron's love interest in Ramin Bahrani's as yet Untitled drama.
If I may she's a cutie.
Production begins in June.
