The horror film series follows a local police department's search for the killer Santa Claus terrorizing a remote Midwestern town on Christmas Eve.
McDowell plays sheriff Miller in this version.
Steven C. Miller will be directing the remake from a script by Jayson Rothwell.
Richard Saperstein, Brian Witten, Shara Kay and Phyllis Laing will produce.
Production stars this month ahead of a holiday release in the US.
