Principal photography has wrapped on director Michael Bay's upcoming "Transformers: Age Of Extinction" We might get the first glimpse of the new movie as a high-profile TV spot for Super Bowl XLVIII on February 2nd.
Bay also took to his official website to refute a quote that he made about the new film being "less goofy" in tone than "Transformers: Dark of the Moon". Bay claims that the quote was taken out of context:
"It is a drag talking to reporters on sets. Why? Because often times they take your words and skew things to their liking. Then the crazy, lazy game of reporting on what other writers story's reported me saying and suddenly it becomes skewed Internet truth. So I waste my time to restate exactly what I did say, again. No I did not 'apologize' for any Transformers movies. I did not say I shot the last three movies "less cool" than the new fourth installment. I was talking specifically about camera style and tone, of the first movie compared to how I shot the new installment with a very big scale, cinematic style. I was very specific in saying the first Transformers was shot in a 'generic suburbia' area, not trying to be cool with any cinematic flashes. I wanted it to feel like this could happen in any backyard in the United States. So that brings me to letting Transformers fans know that we have completed our five and half month shoot. We got back from a month long shoot in China. My crew and I had a fantastic time shooting in Hong Kong and Mainland China. It was an amazing experience, and I love the country. My cast was absolutely fantastic, and a very fun group to work with. We are working hard cutting the movie right now. I think the first piece comes out for the Super Bowl and a teaser right after that. And yes, I'm very excited about this new movie.
The Earth has been left scarred after the events of the first three movies, with humanity picking up the pieces after the Transformers disappeared. The new film follows a high school student, and daughter (Nicola Peltz) of Mark Wahlberg's Cade Yeager--an inventor who discovers a buried Transformer, which sets the stage for their return. Jack Reynor plays her race car driver boyfriend.
Stanley Tucci has joined the cast along with a mysterious young actor who hasn't been identified yet. former Frasier star Kelsey Grammer has been cast as the human bad guy---counter intelligence officer Harold Attinger. British actress Sophia Myles ("Moonlight," "Thunderbirds") will play a scientist in the film Comedian-turned-actor T.J. Miller will play Wahlberg's pal in the movie. "Resident Evil: Retribution" co-star Li Bingbing also stars. Chinese singer/actor Han Geng co-stars. The 29-year-old is a superstar sensation in both his home country – he has 35 millions followers on his Weibo account – and South Korea, where he began his show-business career as a member of the chart-topping pop group Super Junior. Josh Duhamel recently said that they are trying to ensure an appearance for his military hero character, Major Lennox in the film. Titus Welliver appears as well.
Bay has confirmed that the next film is set four years after the events in Chicago as seen in the third film
Ehren Kruger wrote the script for the fourth film. Lorenzo di Bonaventura is producing the film.
Production for Transformers 4 began in June. The sequel hits theaters on June 27th, 2014.
