Meryl Streep Will Give A BIG Speech In “Suffragette"

THR reports that three-time Oscar winner Meryl Streep is in final negotiations to play political activist Emmeline Pankhurst in the women’s rights drama “Suffragette".

Originally titled Suffragettes, the drama will be an ensemble piece highlighting key figures from the Women's suffrage movement. The story centers on Maude (Carey Mulligan), a young woman who becomes engrossed in the early feminist movement, turning to violent acts to bring about more change.

Pankhurst founded several political organizations such as Women's Franchise League and the Women's Social and Political Union, and in 1999, she was voted one of the 100 Most Important People of the 20th Century by Time Magazine.
 
Sarah Gavron is directing from a script by Abi Morgan, who wrote The Iron Lady which starred Streep.

Faye Ward and Alison Owen are producing the film.
 
Cameron McCracken, Tessa Ross and Katherine Butler will executive produce.

Production is scheduled to begin on February 24th in the UK
