Annapura Pictures has acquired the film rights to author Anand Giridharadas' book "True American: Murder & Mercy in Texas" says Variety.
The tale follows the true story of
Bangladesh Air Force pilot Raisuddin Bhuiyan. Bhuiyan dreams of
immigrating to America and working in technology. However, days after the September 11 attacks of 2001 an avowed 'American terrorist' named Mark
Stroman seeks revenge by walking into the Dallas minimart where Bhuiyan
has found temporary work, and shoots him.
Tom Hardy is attached to star and "Zero Dark Thirty" helmer Kathryn Bigelow is set to direct the film.
No word on when the project might go forward since Hardy is next attached
to star in the Elton John biopic "Rocketman" the crime thriller biopic "Legend" and the video game adaptation "Splinter Cell".
