The story is based upon the novel by author Yossi Ghinsberg about the enthusiastic adventurer's terrorizing trip to the Amazon jungle with a sketchy Austrian guide (Bacon) and two pals. The journey turned into a terrifying psychological ordeal, with the wilderness testing their endurance.
"Wolf Creek" helmer Greg McLean's calling the shots using an adapted script written by Justin Monjo.
Dana Lustig Gary Hamilton, Mike Gabrawy and Mark Lazarus are set to produce the film.
Production begins early next year in Australia and Colombia.
Mclean and Bacon recently worked together on the thriller "6 Miranda Drive" due out next year.
