Matt Damon Plays Small Ball Politics

Matt Damon is set to star in the geopolitical comedy drama "Downsizing" says Deadline.

The action takes place in a near future in which Norwegian scientists discover a method of shrinking human beings to an eighth of their size. The method is adopted to reduce consumption and overpopulation, settling the shrunken humans in miniature cities, but slowly dire consequences emerge for big and small people alike.

Damon plays a man who comes to the realization that his life would be much better if he shrunk himself.

"The Descendants" and "Sideways" director Alexander Payne and Jim Taylor co-wrote the screenplay from which Payne calls action. Payne originally passed on doing this opting to film The Descendants and Nebraska. instead.

Paul Giamatti, Sacha Baron Cohen, Meryl Streep, Reese Witherspoon and Gong Li were formerly attached to do this movie, but were not mentioned in the new report.

No word on when filming will begin.
