"Dawn of the Planet of the Apes" director Matt Reeves is at work on the story for the next sequel in the rebooted franchise and says it will
be a painful chapter for Caesar (Andy Serkis).
Reeves is currently writing the script with "Dawn" co-screenwriter Mark Bomback and
confirmed that viewers will likely see an all out war.
Reeves tells Coming Soon:
"[Rise of the Planet of the Apes] is sort of how [Caesar] goes from humble beginnings to
becoming a revolutionary. In Dawn, he really rose to the occasion of
becoming a leader in really challenging and difficult times. The notion of what we're after with the third is to sort of continue
that trajectory and see how he becomes a seminal figure in ape history.
He almost becomes sort of like an ape Moses. A mythic status... We're
trying to play out those themes and continue to sort of explore it in
this universe. Exploring human nature under the guise of apes."
Serkis adds: "The ape community has fallen apart. There's
potential war. He's going to have to lead the apes in darker times. I
think it's going to be very powerful."
'Dawn' was a critical and commercial success making $707 million
worldwide.
