THR reports that Robert De Niro is in talks to join the biopic "Joy".
The film chronicles the life of Joy Mangano--a struggling Long Island single mom of three who became one of the
country’s most successful entrepreneurs with her self-wringing Miracle Mop invention.
De Niro's American Hustle and The Silver Linings Playbook co-star Jennifer Lawrence is tipped to play Mangano. De Niro is considering the role of Mangano's father, but his decision reportedly depends on whether Lawrence's deal gets inked.
Annie Mumolo ("Bridesmaids") penned the initial script. Elizabeth Gabler and Rodney Ferrell have since reworked it. Filmmaker David O. Russell rewrote that draft and will direct.
John Davis, John Fox and Ken Mok are producing.
Shooting is scheduled to begin in early February.
Fox has pegged a Christmas 2015 release date.
