Given the $1.2 billion worldwide gross for Disney's CG animated film "Frozen" I am surprised it has taken this long for anybody that was involved to say anything about a possible sequel. .
Interest in the film, especially with young girls, remains very high . "Frozen" toys and merchandise are still in high demand,--a stage musical is in development, and an attraction is slated to debut at Disney World in Florida come 2016. The characters have come to life on the ABC live action series Once Upon a Time this season Yet Disney still hasn't made it official and announced a cinematic follow-up.
In a recent interview with The Telegraph, Elsa's alter ego actress Idina Menzel hinted that a sequel is actually in the works along with the stage show: "They're all in the works, ha ha!."
So which of these projects is she involved in?
"Ah, yeah sure... Not the stage show - I don't know what will happen with that - but the movie hopefully. We'll see. I'm just going along for the ride."
Disney has a November 2018 release date set aside for an yet unnamed film, which could be a "Frozen" follow-up.
I actually watched the film while spending time with my 6 year old niece. Seeing her face light up was the best part....I wanted the snowman to stay melted and everyone to lose their voice before the end...Jeebus "Let it go" is right....
