"Minecraft" Movie Loses Shawn Levy, Writers

Variety says that director Shawn Levy and writers Kieran Mulroney and Michele Mulroney have vacated their duties on the film adaptation of the highly popular open world video game "Minecraft"

Launched in 2011, the project allows players to use cubes to build walls to protect them from evil nocturnal monsters in a world known as The Nether. The game has since evolved though with players crafting astounding creations.

The official site for the game has over 100 million registered users--It's Xbox 360 version has sold over 10 million units.

Levy and the Mulroney’s presented their idea to the studio last month but it was not what the video game developers were looking for. Rather than try again, they've decided to part ways with the studio who hope to land a new director by the start of next year.

Roy Lee and Jill Sobel Messick are producing the movie
