Speaking on the Nerdist podcast (via Heat Vision), helmer Sam Raim admits that he still gets flack about 2007’s Spider-Man 3:
"Each and every one of those Spider-Man movies were pretty damn challenging. I messed up plenty with the third Spider-Man, so people hated me for years - they still hate me for it. It's a movie that just didn't work very well."
Raimi also says that he now feels it was "wrong" for him to make the trilogy's final film because he "didn't really believe in all the characters."
He adds that shifting the focus away from the relationships between the characters was the biggest problem. On top of that: "[Topping the previous two films] went into the thinking of a lot of people that worked on Spider-Man 3, and it was not good for us."
"Spider-Man 3" still grossed $890 million worldwide and remains the highest grossing"Spider-Man" entry in the entire film franchise.
Despite the overall negative reviews for Marc Webb's "The Amazing Spider-Man 2" (my review) last summer I liked that film--and Andrew Garfield's portrayal a lot better than Tobey Maguire’s in Spider-Man 3
