We know that Michelle MacLaren has officially signed on to direct Warner Bros/DC Entertainment's "Wonder Woman" solo movie. We were also told that "Ice Age: Continental Drift" and the reimagining of J. M. Barrie's "Peter Pan" called “Pan” writer Jason Fuchs is reportedly working with MacLaren on the script.
Yet in a profile story for Vulture, despite all of the progress--it seems as though the project is still in its very early stages - the film still has no script, release date, and in fact it hasn't even been green lit yet.
Excuse me?
Article author Matt Zoller Seitz writes:
"I ask the director for details about the DC Comics epic Wonder Woman, which she was picked to direct after a lengthy, widely publicized search. She stirs her tea. Then she warns that at the moment there is no script, no release date. There's not even an official green light from the film's releasing studio, Warner Bros. - and even if there were, nondisclosure agreements and her paranoia about jinxing things would keep her mum.
MacLaren: 'I really, really, really can't talk about this. I just picture a drone coming in over the hills and crashing through the glass and flying over here and putting duct tape over my mouth, you know?'"
Nothing from the suits yet on clarifying this....
MacLaren has helmed episodes of "Breaking Bad" "The Walking Dead" "The Leftovers" and "Hell on Wheels". MacLaren came out ahead of two names- "Homeland" co-executive producer Lesli Linka Glatter and " The Babadook" helmer Jennifer Kent.
Names like Kathryn Bigelow ("Zero Dark Thirty"), Catherine Hardwicke ("Twilight"), Mimi Leder ("Deep Impact"), Karyn Kusama ("Aeon Flux") Julie Taymor ("Across the Universe") and Tricia Brock ("The Walking Dead") were also on the shortlist of potentials
"Fast Five" star Gal Gadot's playing Wonder Woman in the pic. The character was created by William Moulton Marston,
(aka 'Charles Moulton') who saw the educational potential of comic
books and in 1941 was hired as a consultant for National
Periodicals/All-Winner Comics which later became DC
Bleeding Cool suggests that pic will be set in the 1920s, making it a prequel to Zack Snyder's upcoming superhero team-up film called "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. They add that the sequel to this film would be set during World War II and that she wouldn’t reunite with the Justice League until a third movie.
Charles Roven Richard Suckle. Zack and Deborah Snyder. are producing the film that is said to be slated for a June 23rd 2017 release.
