In the fictional world of super spy James Bond, our hero somehow always manages to escape the clutches of the villain bent on world domination, but in the real world the film franchise has had a rough time in the media this week. If I didn't know any better, I'd swear that his arch nemesis Ernst Stavro Blofeld was behind all the negative press.
Earlier in the week, I told you that there are some casting problems on the latest film, then on Thursday, I find out that Judi Dench (M) is being "dissed" by media snobs, now comes word that Die Another Day (the last "Bond" film to feature Pierce Brosnan in the title role) director Lee Tamahori has gotten himself into some rather interesting legal troubles.
If the allegations facing Mr. Tamahori are true (and right now it certainly doesn't look good for him), that is a real shame, as he knows how to make a solid action film. And he knows how to make Bond soar on screen.
Update 2/24/06 courtesy WENN via The Internet Movie Database:
Prostitution charges against former James Bond director Lee Tamahori have been dropped after the movie-maker pleaded no contest to criminal trespass charges. The Die Another Day director was arrested in Hollywood last month after he approached an undercover vice cop and offered to perform a sex act for money. Tamahori was dressed in drag at the time. In court Thursday morning, Tamahori, who was not in attendance, was placed on three years probation and ordered to attend an AIDS education course. He must also perform 15 days community service
