Here's a few industry related items that caught my eye today.

Variety's Gabriel Snyder reports that the attendees at this year's ShoWest event, have named Superman Returns star, Brandon Routh, and 12 year old Keke Palmer from Madea's Family Reunion, as the stars of tomorrow. The pair will receiver the honor as part of the event's closing ceremonies.

Now in its 31st year, ShoWest is the largest gathering of motion picture professionals and theatre owners from around the world. Each year, ShoWest attracts thousands of delegates from over 45 countries in North and South America, Europe, Asia and Australia. The most powerful people in film making - stars, directors, producers, and executives responsible for bringing films to the public are there, to schmooze and talk shop.

The event will run from March 13th-16th 2006 in Las Vegas.

No real surprise that Routh was chosen for this, given the high profile for SR, he was kinda the only choice.

Meanwhile, 20th Century Fox has seen fit to release an "official" synopsis for the forthcoming X-Men sequel :

In X-MEN: THE LAST STAND, the final chapter in the "X-Men" motion picture trilogy, a "cure" for mutancy threatens to alter the course of history. For the first time, mutants have a choice: retain their uniqueness, though it isolates and alienates them, or give up their powers and become human. The opposing viewpoints of mutant leaders Charles Xavier, who preaches tolerance, and Magneto, who believes in the survival of the fittest, are put to the ultimate test - triggering the war to end all wars.

I don't see why the studios make such a big deal about this type of thing. General plot details on an "event" movie like this, are always around for weeks before the synopsis is made public...and generally it's someone linked to the film who is doing the talking...Why do we need an official synopsis anyway?

I only wrote about this today to express a studio pet peeve of mine. As I say, not all that important when you think about it. New trailers/video blogs are better tools to generate interest

The The Movie Reporter (aka IESB)'s Stephanie Sanchez reports that comic book maverick Frank Miller had even more to say about the progress of Sin City 2, when their cameras caught up with with at the New York Comic Con this past weekend then he did last month . In fact, he was quite the chatterbox about a number of exciting projects on the horizon, including his next visit to Gotham City, planned for 2007!

Boy some Miller fan I am...I didn't even know that Zack Snyder (Dawn of the Dead-2004, that is a must see, if you haven't already) was helming a film version of "300"--Another great story by Miller, let alone that, the film has wrapped production! Wow! How cool is that!
