RIP Jack Palance (1919-2006)

Another Hollywood great is gone....Actor Jack Palance died yesterday of natural causes at the age of 87. Palance played the heavy in many of his films. But to me, he'll always be Curly Washburn in the 19991 comedy City Slickers, for which he won an Academy Award. In fact, upon reaching the stage to accept his Best Supporting Actor statue, I'll never forget him doing a set of one handed push-ups....

He was also known to chew some scenery every now and again as he proved in the actioner Tango & Cash and the first Batman (1989) film. Playing crime boss Carl Grissom in the superhero blockbuster, with that low steady raspy delivery of his, he made the most of a very brief role. He also appeared in the "Brat Pack western Young Guns...Palance was great in The Professionals and Shane in which he played a total badass. That rasp I mentioned earlier also came in handy as the host of TV's first incarnation of "Ripley's Believe It or Not!" in the 80's

For more on Palance, and his very long career, read the Variety obituary by Richard Natale...

On this Veterans Day-2006---I would like to take a moment to honor all of our fighting men and women of the Armed Services, past and present, who have always fought to keep this nation strong.

THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!
