Film is Easy--TV Is Hard

The casting call that went out to find the 2 the leads for the television series, based on the flick Mr. and Mrs. Smith, has been answered....

Jordana Brewster is Mrs. Smith

Martin Henderson is Mr. Smith

The folks at Sci-fi Wire tell the tale via The Hollywood Reporter:

Jordana Brewster (Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning) has signed on to co-star in the ABC pilot Mr. and Mrs. Smith, based on the 2005 feature of the same name, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Brewster takes over the role played by Angelina Jolie in the film.

Like the film, the TV series revolves around John and Jane Smith, a married couple who are assassins for hire. Brewster will play Jane, who is as cool, tough and smart as she is gorgeous, and can disarm a horde of thugs without breaking a sweat. The film's writer, Simon Kinberg, and director, Doug Liman, are both involved in the pilot, and will serve as executive-producers of the series Brewster was in high demand this pilot season, with five projects vying for her, including NBC's
[update on the 70's classic] The Bionic Woman.

Martin Henderson
(Smokin' Aces and Flyboys) has been tapped as the male lead in ABC's drama pilot Mr. and Mrs. Smith.... The pilot, from Regency TV and Dutch Oven...tells the story of John and Jane Smith, a married couple who are secretly [assassins].

I have seen most of Brewster's on screen work and almost none of Henderson's stuff--except The Ring (2002) Therefore, it's impossible to have an informed opinion on the choices made. I can say this...Brewster has played tough characters before and I assume that Henderson can handle a gun--thanks to his role in Smokin'...Still the pair will have a tough time trying to fill the shoes of their film counterparts Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. I just watched Mr. & Mrs. Smith - The Unrated Cut on DVD recently and well--let's just say the sparks that the real life couple had in the film were even more apparent when you watch the new bonus material.
