Jack Of All Trade

From Spider-Man to Jack Ryan...

Paramount is negotiating with Drag Me to Hell director Sam Raimi to revive the studio's 6 year dormant film franchise reports Variety.

The Tom Clancy-created CIA analyst character appears in a series of bestselling books and had four hit movies for the studio

The current plan would see Raimi develop and direct several films featuring a younger Ryan at a more formative point in his career. One premise under consideration for the reboot is to set the action in the present, brought on by some worldwide crisis .

Alec Baldwin and Harrison Ford played the character as someone already established in his job

2002's "The Sum of All Fears", with Ben Affleck in the role, tried a modern-day reset with mixed results according to some (personally, I liked the film-warts and all).

Clancy is currently completing another Ryan novel but the studio hasn't decided if it will use the new book or come up with an original story. Paramount controls the rights to the character and gets first look at the new novel.

The studio will hire a screenwriter to pen the story that Raimi would shoot after he's done with "Hell".

Raimi's time on the "Spider" flicks should serve him well for Ryan, What does the deal and timetable mean for Spider-Man 4?...

As for the time line for Ryan in the film...I think the best thing for the franchise is start over--hitting reset yet again

A Summer 2010 release date for the new flick is being planned.
