Lake Effect

Jared Padalecki of TV's Supernatural is close to landing a lead role in the upcoming Friday the 13th remake as told in The Hollywood Reporter.

The update will see the hockey mask wearing Jason will be the killer-unlike the 1980 original.

Padalecki would play someone who investigates the goings on up at Crystal Lake.

Marcus Nispel (the '03 version of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre) is calling action from a script by Damian Shannon and Mark Swift (the pair behind Freddy vs. Jason).

2 things come to mind with this news: With Padalecki in the lead, the possibility for his character to fare better than the one he played in another horror remake House of Wax from '05. And his TV gig allows him to often investigate strange occurrences.

The film is currently scheduled for a release on Friday February 13th 2009.
