Blue Man Group

Sony Pictures Animation has plans to bring yet another group of classic cartoon characters to the silver screen in a live action/animated hybrid adaptation.

Those small furry blue creatures called The Smurfs are coming back according to Variety.

Originally created in 1958 by Belgian cartoonist Pierre 'Peyo Culliford, the Smurfs began as a comic book, but eventually gained even more fame as a hit Saturday morning TV cartoon series in the 80's.

J. David Stem and David N. Weiss ("Shrek the Third") are in negotiations to pen the the movie's screenplay.

There's been chatter about the project before--This just makes things officially official.

CGI enhanced creatures mixed with live action? Could be fun...If the script has something for the adults who bring in the wee ones
