Based on the book by Thurston Clarke called The Last Campaign: Robert F. Kennedy and 82 Days That Inspired America Columbus will either adapt the script himself or invite another screenwriter to work with him depending upon whether or not he finds a directing project for early next year.
Kennedy's idealistic campaign focused on issues like poverty, racism and ending the Vietnam War. He was assassinated during the campaign on June 5th, 1968.
This is a serious subject for Columbus--who's better known for lighter fare like Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets Mrs. Doubtfire, and Home Alone....Still Rent and Stepmom dealt with serious issues amid the joy...
