Stephen J. Cannell, creator of the cult TV series The Greatest American Hero says via Sci-Fi Wire that a feature film version is in being prepped.
"We've written a screenplay, and we've hired a director, and we're in the midst of putting this together for the future"
Cannell's remarks cane at the Screen Actors 75th Anniversary on Sunday.
Stephen Herek-who is circling to direct,-(Cannell did not confirm).
Cannell-after prompting from series co-star Connie Sellecca says cameos of the original cast are"Absolutely guaranteed. More than cameos: acting jobs" .
Hero ran for three seasons from 1981-'83, and centered on Ralph Hinkley (William Katt), a teacher who comes into possession of a red alien suit that endows its wearer with superpowers--but he loses the instruction manual. Robert Culp played Hinkley's FBI minder and Sellecca his long-suffering girlfriend.
The show was better than critics and ratings suggested. Loved the interplay between Culp and Katt. I had a teenage crush on Selleca. With superheroes all over the place and more widely embraced by non-fanboys The time is right for this.
I hope that they correct the order of the episodes on the DVD release of the original series because the 3rd DVD they're out of order.
