Jeff Jensen of EW takes us inside the Star Trek reboot for this week's cover story:Director J.J. Abrams et al are quoted....But it's this one that caught my attention....
"I think a movie that shows people of various races working together and surviving hundreds of years from now is not a bad message to put our right now," J.J. told the mag.
Zachary Quinto who plays the younger Spock follows up with a provocative thought:
"This is a franchise that offers hope for unity -- and so does Barack Obama," the actor says. "When this movie comes out, and Barack is president, hopefully there will be some parallels."
Trek works best when it doesn't hit the audience over the head with its message --If the message is the world is better off if one guy gets in over another in November then that won't work...The implication is that the story is tied to the election and who wins and that's insane...Quinto can support the candidate of his choice--But if John McCain should happen to win does that mean the hopeful future that Trek has always provided for no matter who is or was President... is evaporated in the film?
Gosh I hope not... Trek can get it's brand of hope out there without political endorsements.
