The storyline takes place at a Sunset Strip club called Rock of Ages, where a man and woman fall in love but soon the rock lifestyle turns them inside out.
The show is felled by '80s rock music from Journey Pat Benatar Bon Jovi and REO Speedwagon among others.
Chris D'Arienzo, who wrote the book for the show, will write the screenplay and direct the film.
Tobey Maguire is one of the film's producers.
