Pirate's Life No More

Director Gore Verbinski will NOT helm the next installment in the Pirates of the Caribbean series according to Variety.

Verbinski told 'Pirates' producer Jerry Bruckheimer of the news, and now will focus on other projects.

The adaptation of the bestselling video game Bioshock from a script by John Logan is expected to Verbinski's next feature.

A fourth 'Pirates' film is expected to go into production next year with Johnny Depp back as Captain Jack Sparrow. The project has yet to be greenlit however and Verbinski's departure surely means a delay of some sort.

I had a fantastic time bringing ‘Pirates’ to life, and I am eternally grateful to Jerry, Johnny and the rest of the creative and production team,” Verbinski said. “I’m looking forward to all of us crossing paths again in the future.”

Verbinksi will indeed work with Depp on his animated flick "Rango" in which Depp voices the title character. That film opens March 2011.

Let the search for Pirates new captain begin...

Bruckheimer meantime is planning an adaptation of Doug Stanton's upcoming book The Horse Soldiers as stated in Variety yesterday.
