Gray Areas

Industry newcomer Evan Daugherty will write the latest draft of "Grayskull" says The Hollywood Reporter.

Kung Fu Panda director John Stevenson is attached to direct the adaptation of "He-Man and the Masters of the Universe" cartoon series and toy line, which followed a blond warrior named Prince Adam who turns into the heroic He-Man.. Along with his trusted allies -- Battle Cat, Man-at-Arms and Orko -- He defends the planet Eternia from the evil forces of Skeletor, who tries to conquer the fortress Castle Grayskull, which imbued He-Man with his powers.

Justin Marks wrote a previous version of the script, which never got off the ground after several directors, including Bryan Singer and Doug Liman, turned the project down. It saw Adam as a soldier who sets off to find his destiny, happening upon the magical world of Eternia. There, Skeletor has raised a technological army and is bent on eradicating magic.

Daugherty's only previous writing credit is the unproduced screenplay Shrapnel, a psychological thriller about two enemies on a hunting trip to the death.

Marks is a good writer--His take on MOTU must have been really a sell for him to walk away from it.
