A spokeswoman for the actor has confirmed that he has backed out of "The Three Stooges" and "Cartel". The rep explained Penn would remain involved in the movies if the start dates on the flicks could be postponed.
A source close to the actor reported he wants to take a break from his job to work on his troubled marriage to actress Robin Wright Penn.
His role in"Cartel is recasting as this posts his role, with a list of potential actors to replace Penn hoping to find the right actor by early fall.
As for Stooges it's a matte of whether the filmmakers will recast a new actor to play Larry Fine, or wait for him to return to work. Penn would co-star with Jim Carrey and Benicio Del Toro in the movie from directors Peter and Bobby Farrelly.
