Avary Gets Jail

The Associated Press reports that a Ventura County Superior Court Judge sentenced Hollywood writer/director Roger Avary to one year in jail and five years of probation...

On January 13th 2008, Avary was driving drunk in Southern California at speeds exceeding 100 miles per hour. He hit a telephone pole, killing one of his passengers, a friend visiting from Italy, and seriously injuring his wife. Avary initially plead not guilty to the charges, but changed his plea on August 18th 2009.

Avary co-wrote Pulp Fiction with Quentin Tarantino for which they won the 1995 Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay.

He also wrote The Rules of Attraction, Silent Hill and Beowulf.

In fact Avary was to write Silent Hill 2.

There’s no official word on how his incarceration will affect those sequel plans but I can't imagine that there would not be a delay.

Such a tragic waste and something that did not have to happen....
