Breaking Up Is Hard

Twilight franchise producer Wyck Godfrey tells The Los Angeles Times that plans for the film adaptation of the fourth and final book in the series, Breaking Dawn are still being worked out.

Godfrey addressed plans to split it into two films ala Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part I and Part II - "The issue is not going to be resolved until we get the full treatment and see whether it's organic. It really has to do with how much level of detail from the books there is, with all of these new vampires that appear in 'Breaking Dawn,' the whole section about Jacob... (Taylor Lautner) It's a very long single movie if it does become a single movie."

And then there's Renesmee, Bella's (Kristen Stewart) half-vampire, half-human daughter who is able to read, talk, run and hunt despite being a toddler. Godfrey says "It's certainly going to be visual effects in some capacity along with an actor. I wouldn't be surprised if it ends up being a full CG creation, but it also may be a human shot on a soundstage that then is used to shrink down."

Even with "New Moon" helmer Chris Weitz being linked to call the shots, Godfrey admits they haven't signed a director yet who will be able to handle "the emotions and the intensity of the love story," as well as the "action and visual effects."

I would be shocked if the story wasn't split in two--giving Summit Entertainment a chance to make as much as it can off the vamp franchise.
