Erin Cressida Wilson ("Secretary," "Chloe") is writing the film adaptation of Lisa See's novel Peony in Love says Variety. Set in 17th century China the story deals with feminine repression with its tale of a young woman who falls for a man she cannot wed. Inspired by an opera, she starves herself to death and encounters a series of ghosts who discuss their own experiences with her.
Michael Costigan, Michael Ellenberg and Giannina Facio will produce the feature.
